I work with people who record electrical signals from neurons everyday. It may be that there is something to the notion of nerves propogating sound (wildly improbable, but remotely possible). To categorically say that electricity has got nothing to do with it, though, is demonstrably untrue. Either the reporter messed that story up super bad, or these guys are idiots (advanced degrees not withstanding).

That fact that these recording are measurable, repeatable, and predictable is just a fabulous coincedence.
