praefex says: Ok so, in using clipmarks, I see a lot of other languages I have no clue how to read. Clipmarks needs to step up to the google level of geo-location and bite the bullet, detect the user's country and then present to them compatible languages. I think this would improve the general usability. nice idea... Yes, having the option to filter out the "non-native" languages works well to keep the "per visitor" readable material upfront. Yeah you got it! Maybe just a checkbox in your profile or something? That's definitely a good way to go. When you save a clipmark, it would be cool to have a language selector drop-down menu so you can designate a language for each clipmark (especially important for our bi-lingual clippers). Of course it could default to the language you set in your profile. Then we could have a language selector on the site so you can easily see "All French Clipmarks" or "All Chinese Clipmarks" etc. Like you said, you could set a default in your profile for that too. I completely agree with Adam, a filter for languages is, what i already talked with Eric about some time ago. But i think designating a language to a clip is not quite enough, there should also be one more option to mark them "language-independant" (eg. screenshots, maps, images,...) In addition the frontend - the navigator - should be available in more languages... What if you clipsomething in a language and then someone translates it in comments. Would you mark it as the orginal language clipped? What if same article is clipped in 2 diffrent languages - should there be a way to link them together? Imagine I clipsomething from NYTimes, the same article appears in a Turkish, Chinese, and French Newspaper. Be interesting to join them somehow and thus see viewpoints/commens from each country. Just another few thoughts on this. BTW - I think it would be really cool interface if it could be made like the one on StarTrek TNG, where users can just say "Clipmarks - show me all articles clipped on Oil and alternative energy - and those order by English, French, and Chinese" We just need EricG to say "Make it so clipmarks team" i'd actually say "faccialo così clipmarks squadra" in all seriousness, i love the idea...rainonline has been on me about this for a while now. just need to find the time to plan it out properly and then get it done. it is unquestionably imperative. |
