Cane toads were introduced to Australia from South America in 1932 to combat plagues of beetles infesting sugarcane crops. The toads had little effect but bred prolifically and have been an environmental disaster, with their toxin killing native animals such as goannas and quolls. It is estimated there are now 10 cane toads for every person in Australia.

"Crocs don't ask too many questions when they're looking for a meal," Dr Mike Letnic, of the University of Sydney, said.

"They snap at anything that moves past, and we think there have been large concentrations of cane toads congregating on the river, so that's created the problem for the crocodiles."

I have a different view - I believe nature has its own way of dealing with issues that concern it; we'd be up to our butts in crocs/shit otherwise. Having said that, Steve Irwin - God bless his soul, forgive me...

They are not native and a human interference with nature.

The Australian Crow,Corvus coronoides, (actually a Raven) is a marvelous bird, it does wonderful Graham Kennedy impersonations. It also has leaned to tip the cane toads on their back, and devour them from underneath, thus avoiding the poison glands.
Unfortunately, Quolls and other cute Aussie animals, like Taipans, Goannas, and Brown snakes have not, now we don't have many Quolls left.
When in Queensland I deal with them using a three iron, the transition to Toad heaven is instantaneous and quite humane. They have no fear of humans, and just sit there.

Automobiles are their biggest "predator". And, last I heard, the government won't let stoners smoke the venom which might have some effect on the population.

It would certainly have an effect on that part of the population that smoked them!
The recommended method of euthanizing is to put them in the freezer, a Friend of mine did that, but her husband thought it was a meat pie, it blew up in the microwave.
Other more enterprising people made shoes from cane toad leather, but most of us don't wear shoes, so it wasn't very successful.
