In this article, we'll look closely at fascism, find out what the term really means and how the ideology has been used to unite nations and divide the world.

Prominent Fascist Regimes

* Fatherland Front, led by Engelbert
Dollfuss, Austria (1934-1938)
* National Fascist Party, led by Benito Mussolini (1924-1943)
* National Socialist German Workers (NAZI) Party, led by Adolf Hitler, Germany (1933-1945)
* National Union, led by Antonio de Oliveira Salazar, Portugal (1934-1968)

Fascist regimes use violent suppression to maintain control of the State. Mussolini inspects the "Shock Troops" of the Fascist Militia during celebrations in Rome.

It has its roots in the Latin fasces, a bundle of sticks tied to
a single ax -- a symbol of unity and righteous power in ancient Rome.
One might say the fasces embodies the essence of fascism: The people
are the sticks, tied to the state to form a strong, single unit.

Who carries the banner for unity?

But liberty is not unity. It is it's antithesis. Unity should not be desired where liberty is concerned. So, beware those that proffer some organic unity and national mobilization for whatever "cause". History has shown us these experiments in "unity" are no fun.

To be fair to Obama, I think he's making a pretty good point when he says that Americans shouldn't be wasteful with their resources (driving suvs, keeping homes at 72 degrees at all times). While I DO NOT support government regulating these things, I still think he has a good point. Americans shouldn't abuse their liberties or their resources, else we may lose both.

Very good clip merrie, thank you.

So very many people toss around the terms "fascist or fascism" almost like a mantra, without even a modicum of knowledge regarding the subject.

Since I was very young I have had a horrid fascination regarding this blight upon humanity, and so have been reading and reading about what I have chosen to call "the antafication of society" (my own word)

One of the most insightful books shedding insight as to how this abomination comes about is IMO "The Sane Society" by Eric Fromm, and "Escape From Freedom" by the same author

In "The Sane Society" Fromm speculates as to whether it is possible for a whole society to become mentally ill and then pretty much g...

The problem many have in understanding fascism is that they cannot grasp the idea of fascism outside of the brutality under Nazi-ism (which was an ideology entirely of it's own). The prototypical fascist state was Mussolini's Italy. America approached this threshold in the era of Wilson thru FDR when the USA was eagerly heading down this road. Fascism used to fashionable. It was called "the future" by Time magazine. It was heralded as the ideal state by many elites in academia.
Fascism is not an ideology based on racism or brutality (The sanity of a people is not the issue, but that only furthers the ignorance). Fascism is a progressive-socialist ideology that enforces, by law, the melding ...

fascists are right-wing, not left-wing.
Well, you're right about one thing.
