BigBadWolf says: First, I beg forgiveness if I am misusing clipmarks and feel free to kill this clip if I am. To anyone who reads this, especially photographer/graphics people, I am calling on five minutes of your time here. I would appreciate a few honest opinions to clarify this dilemma for me. Thank you in advance. wow bbw, your images are really awesome. I don't get it either... there has to be another reason beside image quality. I'm no expert on photos, not even close, but I know what I like, and I like your photos. I think your photos have plenty of spirit and essence. Besides, how can one say that the photographer was capturing spirit in the blacktop pic? If I looked hard enough, I'm sure I could find one just like it in my photo library from when I was trying to stick my camera in my pocket and I bumped the buttons... Thanks Derek... I tried to pick only the pictures I thought had some kind of essence to them. Maybe there is an essence I missed that is emanating from the traffic cops ass? What about the blank sky with nothing but the corner of a tree? Where the hell is there any spirit in that? I have THOUSANDS of images that the general public would appreciate and I am working on a way to get them online for download and use. Those waterfall shots are awesome Rich. Beatpoet... not to be a butthead but black is the absense of color. Anyway, I understand what you are saying for the most part but the hue of the sky in that photo is mundane IMHO. Don't get me wrong I do appreciate your input! This is why dogs bark at cats...QUE? beatpoet... I asked for input and you gave it. It would be pretty hypocritical of me to get upset with you wouldn't it? I truly am trying to understand this whole situation as it may improve my skills. LOL @ Amaruca! I am with a photosharing group- Istockphoto and have contributed to photos.com and others. If you think these guys are just rejecting you for no reason - try submitting to another group. As far as rejection - why or why not- you need to be a professional graphic artist to understand why some are included and some rejected. They are the ones who use these services. About the accepted images: The green treetop and open sky picture? Nice starter image for a header or banner- lots of 'space' with a well balanced right hand (important that it is right hand) corner filled with fresh green treetops. Gives the impression of 'height' and leaves space for text, etc. The asphalt imag... Your photos should NOT have been rejected. However the cops ass.... that's 3 seconds of my life I want back. Athyrius... I am in graphics but perhaps you're a notch above me on the creative marketing side. owever the cops ass.... that's 3 seconds of my life I want back.LOL I know that at IStock they pretty much request people who want to submit landscapes to not. They have such a massive database of landscapes already. There needs to be a point of interest. Like that cop. Or an interesting pattern- like the tree with the sun. And they are good photos- for what they are to be used for. People aren't going to these places to look for photos to print and hang on the wall. They are to be used for work flow. Think of them as an intermediary image- not as a finished work, and you will see the quality in them for thier purpose. Then you can go back through your photos and with that in mind- submit some more. Athyrius, after re-reading your original post and rethinking it, I am starting to understand your points better. My background in graphics is not geared towards advertising so a lot of what you have shared has made things a bit clearer. I have plenty of shots which would be more fitting and perhaps I will give those a try Thank you very much for taking the time to help me understand this. You are welcome. There is nothing wrong with your pictures. There is absolutely nothing wrong with your photos. Different sources want different things. I'm not familiar enough with the source to say. Some of your stuff might be "too professional looking. A lot of people offering shots would get excited if their work became "exploited", However, someone who is obviously of the professional many possible affects on the minds of the judging party. 1) "we could get sued" 2) "These are too good and could intimidate the people who submit things on a regular basis" 3)" We are trying to reach the casual person who doesn't want to see stunning photography"4)"This guy actually buys lens filters and goes to camera stores even after he bought his camera" Who knows? Was there maybe an issue with the size. Those are great images. I know with a little muster they can be "size faked" and still keep the resolution...but...how big were the pics for that kind of res? I've had sites reject certain images because of maximum size limits. And just about nobody wants a tiff. The site I sent them too had MINIMUM size requirements but no maximum. I looked at these pictures on your website some days ago and thought they were good. It's difficult to tell exactly what a particular site looks for in photos they accept (it seems to me to be quite a personal thing) and I reckon that some of these sites are just too pretentious for their own good. Even certain groups in flickr are the same. Don't worry about it I think the aspahlt pic captures a mood, the girl is a typical fashion shot, the tree is a sort of mystical nature shot, the traffic cop captures a sardonic tone, and the tree and sky is about positive and negative space relations. Your pictures are good I would just keep talking more and more until you get one that has a certain essence that they may be looking for. If you really want to be on the site that is, otherwise if I were you I'd be happy with the shots you have they're awesome. a*an atypical fashion shot* |
