clip-on-tie says: No thanks, I don't want to live forever. "Ultimately, nanobots will replace blood cells and do their work thousands of times more effectively. "Within 25 years we will be able to do an Olympic sprint for 15 minutes without taking a breath, or go scuba-diving for four hours without oxygen. "Heart-attack victims – who haven't taken advantage of widely available bionic hearts – will calmly drive to the doctors for a minor operation as their blood bots keep them alive. "Nanotechnology will extend our mental capacities to such an extent we will be able to write books within minutes. "If we want to go into virtual-reality mode, nanobots will shut down brain signals and take us wherever we want to go. Virtual sex will become commonplace. And in our daily lives, hologram like figures will pop in our brain to explain what is happening. "So we can look forward to a world where humans become cyborgs, with artificial limbs and organs." I agree Clippy grow old disgracefully Millions long for immortality who don't know what to do with themselves on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Susan Ertz No thanks, I don't want to live forever.Neither do I,although I certainly know what to do on a rainy afternoon... I'll pass as well. Really don't want to spend my days in an alternate reality - I already do too much of that at work. Besides, if I had chips in me, my software would surely end up corrupted. Reboot Reboot Reboot. It's not about immortality; they already have that. It's about perishability; how to house "immortality" in a Perfectly Integrated Structure-Function-Relationship Cyborg (SFR) that will permit them to get out of here before, for want of better words, "THE END." NO EXITS by Steve Savage "King of the Beasts" http://sskotb.blogspot.com/2008/12/no-exits-by-steve-savage-king-of-beasts.htm Ever see the movie "The Island"? That's what this reminds me of, they cloned people to use the clones' body parts to replace theirs as they needed them. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0399201/ well i don't know, we're not flying to and from our jobs in our own personal aircraft yet....i don't think i'm gonna hold my breath. Well, of course it's lunacy. If you notice, this is a subset of the humanist, scientism crowd. Get this....It is their attempt to make science more like a religion. If you look around, this is what science is TRYING to evolve into....evolutionary psychology, etc. Carl Sagan warned about this in his book Demon Haunted World. There will the those who "speak" the language ( for example, complex languages like computer programming languages, etc) and those who don't. The future of power is up in the air and the common people are losing more an more every day. Whether people will live to 200 of 250 in the next 100 years or so..who knows. I believe the human body is designed to live quite a long... The human body, like all creatures, is designed to reproduce itself and provide a "start" for it's offspring. As for cyborgs and immortality, the planet is overcrowded now ( going on the number of people who are starving ). Some will be tried, just for money. I wouldn't begin to want immortality if the mum-in-law was. I would love to live forever, but not with all those chips in me There is no life without death as there is no day without night. This kind of "progress" is only for the very wealthy. It will never be financially available for "regular" people, if only because of the lack of resources on this planet to support a large population of "immortals". Just imagine the kind of power that a group of wealthy and powerful immortals would be able to wield over future generations. |
