bookchick49 says: Quote excerpt: "Companies historically haven't been proactive in getting older workers to train younger workers to do their jobs. " It is my (humble) opinion that the work ethics of the younger workers have changed over the years. When I walk by a (younger) worker's desk and see them surfing the web or iPhoning, iTuning and iChatting on company time, it pisses me off. Whatever happened to asking a co-worker who is swamped, if they could use some help? It's called "Team Work" and I haven't seen much of it coming from the younger crowd. I also see more bully attitudes. Those of us that have been working our asses off over the years don't appreciate this attitude in the work place nor do we have time to deal with it because we're 'busy.' Hello? And what's this crap excuse "It's not my job," or "that isn't in my job description." I had one young gal working with me, in college, bright and intelligent and took initiative. Quick learner. However, everything she did Read "America's Corporate Brain Drain." It a new business book that tells why everyone, not just the boomers, are running from big companies. Bookchick49 is right about bullying and teamwork. "America's Corporate Brain Drain" says there are 4 major reasons why employees are fed up. Bullying (35 percent of big-company employees), the teamwork myth, innovation atrophy and nailing anyone who tries to change things, and a thing called "silly process roles." Great read. Not a typical biz book. Has international travel stories woven in. Lots of great stories. Thanks for this info Rae Vin. I noticed that my comments were 'clipped off.' LOL I think this article had me so jazzed up that I ranted on and it was probably a good thing that it got lost in the upload. I think the rest of what I was saying had to do with the lack of loyalty that the younger generation appears to have, in regards to the peeps that put the bread and butter on their table. And finally, how much time and effort does a 'boomer' want to put into teaching not only the job but work ethic which goes along with it. Sad state of affairs but it certainly puts me on the 'watch' for who I choose to work with. If I see 'shit' in the office, I'm looking for a way out already. BTW,... |
