• The handshake is the universally acceptable way of greeting acquaintances, with the older or higher ranking party offering his hand first.  Men should wait for female colleagues or friends to initiate a social kiss so as not to look too aggressive or forward.  The eldest or highest ranking person in a group should always be greeted or introduced first in any social or business situation.
• Filipinos are status conscious; professionals usually expect to be addressed by their formal titles such as Dr. Buenaventura, Engr. Manuel or Atty. Enriquez.  For individuals who do not have professional titles appended to their names, address them by Mr./ Mrs. or Ms. followed by their last names.  Refrain from calling a new acquaintance by his first name or nickname until you are invited to do so.
