spirithiker says: The FDA, in it's attempt to protect us from deceptive advertising practices, has forced Hershey's to admit they no longer use cocoa butter in their products. However, FDA ruling will not prevent Hershey from practicing deception. The packaging looks exactly the same. They are selling an inferior product and they’re not even telling anyone. Do you feel betrayed yet? In a statement, Hershey’s told TODAY that consumers love its products and all its candies are clearly labeled. It still offers real milk chocolate in Hershey’s Kisses, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and its classic chocolate bar. Most corporations deal with increasing cost by raising their prices, Hershey's substituted inferior ingredients and tried to slip it past us. Buyer beware! No more Hershey's for me I won't buy Kraft's Mayo because the texture and taste have changed. I'm confident this is happening with many other products. If they (food producing companies) want to cut their costs, change to cheaper ingredients, etc... fine; just give me the option of buying the *real* thing even if the price is higher. Ya know, like "cheese" vs "cheese food". I thought the Whatchamacallit I ate at the airport in lieu of lunch yesterday tasted funny. Cheap SOBs! Not really surprised. This practice is pervasive in the packaged goods world now. Take a look at the cereal boxes or even the "big tub" ice cream containers these days. You will notice that while you may be paying about the same price (slight gas increase typical) but the package size is smaller. You can get away with shrinking down a "large" cereal box much easier than a candy bar. Thus, Hershey's strategy to find cost efficiency is via a cheaper (and much more noticeable) chance in ingredients. IMO, this strategy will backfire and you will see a move back to original formula. That said, in the long run, Hershey's might even see a bounce in their sales from the change back vis a vis the PR g... The larger point: this is why some regulation of industry is critical to consumer protection. Industries exist only to make money, and the temptation to slip things past consumers becomes, for most, irresistible. @dgreplay, it really bothers me when the amount is reduced rather than raising the price. When cooking, it messes up your recipe when a can was 16 oz. and now it's 14.5 oz. hasn't Hershey also moved it's production plants to Mexico? — Comment removed by moderator — Hershey kisses suck. You can't even go to Cadbury's - it's made by Hershey in the US. |
