Imus' comments were terrible and outrageous. Imus deserves vilification and should apologize and take his lashes on the Al Sharpton's church steps, just like Henry II. However, Sharpton is wrong to ask the FCC to censor Imus. Imus employers should not fire Imus because Al Sharpton is bringing pressure. Is racism exposed by forcing it into the shadows? Quite the contrary, it gains power and credence in the shadows. Shine the cold light of publicity on it and see how it survives. It is better that Don Imus is allowed to say it and is not afraid for his job for saying it because then we can demand apologies and show everyone racisms ugly face (and that face sure is ugly).
