ratilfar says: The poles have areas of perpetual sunlight and perpetual shade. The sunlight would be useful as a source of solar power for colonists. The shaded areas may feature deposits of ice that have been locked up for billions of years. Such ice could be used not just as a source of water. Through electrolysis, it could be broken down into hydrogen and oxygen. The oxygen could be used both for respiration and to make rocket fuel for trips back and forth to Earth. But there's no definitive proof ice is there. The possible presence of water on the moon "is a hotly and passionately debated topic," Tooley said. I think its possible to make water and hydrogen from sunlight. If possible to do this in the moons atmosphere we could have what we need to survive there. Why would we want to live on the moon. The expense alone would make today's budgets look small. The money would be better spent making this planet right before we head off to some tourist resort for the rich, subsidized by some govt with lots of tax payers. Luna (Earth's Moon) doesn't have an atmosphere. Also I think it is important to go to other planets. The technology developed to lived in such harsh environments would help with our problems here. That and if humanity can extract minerals from other worlds that would cut down on mining here on Earth. There is no atmospher on the Moon. What we will learn by living there, will be usefull here and elsewhere. But your argument about spending money to make this planet right is a valid one. There is no logical or emotional reason that we can't live together peacefully. I will believe it when I see it. When we were on the moon, if we were or not. We were warned to not come back. Seems the humans or creatures that were already living there told us to stay away, why have we not went back, think about it and do a little research other then just believe Nasa. As far as us ruining some other planet in the galaxy, we need to learn to respect the one we are one and were given to use temporarily, it is a living breathing planet that we are all sharing in raping of all it's needed resources. The money would be better spent making this planet rightThis is an old canard that keeps getting dragged out in opposition to space exploration. What people don't realize is that technology spun off the various space programs has benefitted the lives of ordinary people. Advances in medicine, communications, meteorology, remote imaging and electronics alone have resulted in a return far exceeding the investment. One thing many people, especially Americans, fail to realize is that NASA is prohibited by law from profitint from the technology it helps create - all that has to be farmed out to the private sector, which is then free to exploit that technology for everyday uses. ... — Comment removed by clipper — Swearing spam. |
