I think the structure of religious teaching and the basic ways implementing these teachings is done is what has the desired effect.

Look at Many Asian nations & cultures, many people in places like Japan, etc are not "religious" in the belief in a god of any kind sense, yet have extremely strong morals that the follow much more closely than my western religious folk do. Of course their morals in some ways are differnt than ours (take sex for example.. many Japanese feel that sex & love are two entirely separate things...)

(My g/f is a nanny who is extremely respected in her community). Just look a tthe vast differences between a child who is raised in a structure environment where there are schedules and rules to be followed where the care giver does not bend, then look at a child who is given free reign or less than structured care... the differences are astounding. This can be done (and often is in child care situations) without religion, to the same effect. You CAN add religious teaching, but IMO, have to be careful to teach tolerance at the same time.

As a side note: We are starting our family very soon (next month in fact), my g/f has been a nanny for 12 years, is one of the highest paid and most sought after and respected in the area (I count myself very, very lucky to have found someone who I know will raise good children). All that nanny-knowledge will be used in our household. We will be teaching our children about ALL religions and letting them make the decision for themselves, regardless of what we believe in. Thats is how we believe it should be.
