constantskeptic says: I don't use google reader (I use netvibes.com to manage my daily rss reads) but many people do. Aren't most of these just a huge hassle and an un-needed step? If you can have a string of bookmark links many with live feeds in a drop-down menu right on your browser, why not just go to the site itself in 1 or 2 seconds? With tabbed browsing Firefox becomes your reader. I've tried several feeders, built up Google Reader, only to discard each one as they were a barrier to getting to the info. In a reader/feeder you get a list of headlines for each story on each source. So you look them over, some not quite getting the jist exactly, so you click to the site to get the straight view. ????? ! Why not just go there in the first place? That's just one specific. Customized Google News Page,maybe... What am I missing? davboz you should check out netvibes.com, the advantage is that when you click on each new article from your rss feed module, the site opens within netvibes so you can quickly read the latest articles on your favorite blogs, etc. very quickly and intuitively. It doesn't take that long to add rss feeds or organize your modules either, it is all drag and drop... I for one hate google reader because it is too plain text feel and when you click on an article it takes you away from the reader to read the article, which seems pointless to me. I want all my latest news and articles, weather, etc. in one place, and that is netvibes. I used netvibes for long but gave up after Google improved their reader. I like Reader now because of keyboard shortcuts. Netvibes square boxes are cool but Reader's List or Expanded view with keyboard shortcuts are quicker. I have also tried Firefox's live bookmarks but it is not as fast as Google's reading. While I haven't used netvibes and have dabbled with Google Reader, I can not see any reason I should not continue using My Yahoo as my RSS reader. Instead of hidden lists, I create more pages of the feeds I like, all clearly visible with line summaries. After all, there is a limit to how many one can read in a day. |
