Amazingly patriotic, aren't they?

I think Obama shouldn't have gotten himself into the front, him being irrelevant in 2016, it should be politically calculated as loose-loose situation. Besides, Chicago's political machinery has corrupt reputation so most of the cheering we see is probably the side effect of such perception.

I was pretty torn about Chicago 2016, tell truth. My neighborhood abuts Washington Park on the south, and like most of the communities in the area, it is made up of working class blacks.

There was a lot of fear that property taxes would skyrocket, and we would all be priced out in the next 7 years. I'm well aware of the corruption here, and I've never, ever, given my vote to da Mayor.

That said, I just find it appalling that there is such glee on the right. I can't for the life of me imagine that liberals would have been cheering if the US had failed to land the Atlanta '96 games during George H.W.'s presidency.

It's not just the city, it is the nation that gets to host the Olympics.

Exactly, ratilfar.

LOL. Preposterous as usual. The best thing for Chicago and the nation IS to NOT have the Olympics.

Besides, we may have gotten the games if Obama hadn't inserted himself and made the case for the Olympics solely on his and Michelle's childhood dreams, or whatever. Maybe he should have sent GW Bush as an ambassador instead. We may have stood a better chance.

Yeah, and Up is Down, Left is Right, and so on and so forth.

The vote was probably a foregone conclusion and that means with or without the President and First Lady. The USOC and the IOC have been at odds over revenue sharing. Also, consider that the Olympic Games have never been hosted in South America and that Rio is also hosting the World Cup in 2014.

Oh and dulios, Mayor Daley is most likely a goner this time around. His parking meter debacle will sink him.

Too bad it takes an electron microscope to find common ground.

Video of the cheering (and excited texting) with article on this page: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/10/02/conservatives-revel-in-ob_n_307794.html

This should make it clear that anything -- anything Obama does will be condemned for some reason and our 24-hour-a-day corrosive and toxic news will report on it.

The tactics of smear and fear remain the core of the Republican party, the politics of personal destruction.

The solution is to keep kicking their butts out of office, keep voting to elect better leaders and be wise about what we see as news and/'or valid opinion.

It's quite natural to "root for the home team," so Obama was okay to do that. The Republicans like spoiled children ...

Exactly citizenbfk: the Repubs are staying true to Rush's rallying cry, I want Obama to fail!
Accurate summation of the event zizzy.
Thanks ratilfar.

I fervently hope so, but I sometimes fear that Chicago is Daley's as long as he wants it.
