Just some more of the Dems political sideshow done with smoke and mirrors, and taypayer money. I'm sure they were lovely flowers. :~) I was trying to visualize what 16k in flowers would actually look like without success. I was trying to visualize what 2 trillion dollars wasted in Iraq looks like ..... but without much success. I'm now trying to visualize you without your head up your a--. also without any success dl211, I thought you were above talking to me you lily livered wuss. With a pea brain such as your own I am amazed you can imagine anything. You're like a car stuck in reverse, you can only go backward and you want the rest of the world to accomodate you. I have been avoiding you however you threw the first punch, if you're as smart as you think you are, you should have anticipated a response. He *did* anticipate a response. I just read this morning that Mrs. Pelosi also has succeeded in making the cafeterias for the House all organic. Now, isn't she the most effective Speaker? ! She really knows how to get important things accomplished. s/0ff Quite the housekeeper, to bad she's not as good at being a politician. Oh well I guess some can just brown-bag it if they don't agree with her ideas. @dl211, go examine these comments, you made the first remark that addressed a clipper and not the individuals in said clip. From the other clippers around here I would expect a response addressing the amount of money wasted by the Bush administration in Iraq compared to a paltry amount spent on decoration. However since you have arrived you give up the intellect immediately and go for the personal. Bravo brainiac, don't over tax yourself you, you don't want to kill of the few remaining brain cells you have left. @jatfla You know your repeated comments about the effectiveness of this congress is a joke. We already posted the number of legislative pieces passed by the preceding "do nothing",... Coburn is trying to stop some of the pork. He did the same types of things when republicans were in control. But it does look like this congress may have finally found a way to blow away the last congress. If this latest spending bill passes, they will have quadrupled the number of earmarks in just one year. Now that is some serious earmark reform. Regardless of Senator Coburn's intent, it seems to go against the designs of the U.S. government to halt debate on a particular issue before all of the elected representatives because it doesn't mesh with your personal standard. This is obstructionism. (More on Coburn later). No earmarks can match the financial windfall that Bush donors have received in non-competitive contracts in the Iraq fiasco Back to Coburn (from one of his states major newspapers no less - Tulsa World). U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn once again served notice he will try to derail legislation that fails to meet his requirements, a move a t... The clip was refering to Pelsoi and her wasting money, I responded to that, then you, and once again you try stir the pot, I choose not to become part of your hate stew. We need more senators like Coburn who won't just roll over and allow the senate to goof off all year then pass all these last minute bills at once with a single vote. @dl211 What there is some rule that says you can't make a comparison of the wasteful spending of the Bush administration to show how much of a paltry expenditure this is? That would be, and is, ridiculous. You started the hate stew, idiot. @n2, Coburn should debate the issues. Congress exists for the people and not one man. Debate on the bills is exactly what he is seeking. BTW, the Tulsa World isn't that major and is one of the more liberal papers in the nation. There are no liberal public papers in the state of Oklahoma. There's conservative and ultra-conservative. And Tulsa World is number 2 in circulation (well maybe number 3, Dallas Morning News might sell more than The Daily Oklahoman and Tulsa World). N2, it's obvious you didn't read the article because Coburn wants all Senators to pass their proposed bills to him for his inspection and approval before they go to debate. He isn't looking for debate. U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn once again served notice he will try to derail legislation that fails to meet his requirements, a move a top leadership aide dismissed Wednesday as a stunt that will tire even the Oklahoman’s fellow Republicans.[/quote... Tulsa World is right up there with the Boston Globe in their reporting style. It is quite the liberal paper. The Oklahoman on the other hand is just as conservative. And maybe you think it is great for congress just to blindly pass legislation that they never even get a chance to read, but most of us don't. Coburn warned that he wouldn't vote to blindly pass legislation of which he didn't approve. Isn't that what they are supposed to do? Imagine a senate where senators actually read the legislation and voted for or against it based on that. That would be good. Then the Patriot Act never would never have been passed. His remarks would hold water if he was not doing this for some time however. He also uses it as a method to kill legislation that he doesn't like. He has done this to 90 other bills.........prior to this session end period. Nice try. Five years ago, Virginia Graeme Baker, the 7-year-old granddaughter of former secretary of state James A. Baker III, drowned at a pool party in McLean when she was pulled underwater by the force of a hot-tub drain.
Whatever point you want to make don't blame the legislative impasses on Democrats. It's the Republicans and people like Tom Coburn. Coburn didn't pull this until the democrats tried to ram through a years worth of legislation in a week before Christmas break. Whine about his tactics all you want, it isn't his fault the democrats wasted the entire rest of the year. N2. There are multiple articles out there that point out he has already done this to 90 bills and then sent out the letter advising senators to vett their bills through him. What part of that do you not understand. His end of year tatics are in addition to what he has already done. The freshman lawmaker has waged a war on spending by blocking more than 90 bills this year. Now, as his colleagues rush to finish the congressional session before Christmas, Coburn is threatening to use his power to say ``no'' to try to slow a frenzy of lawmaking, including such items as a measure to ease the subprime lending crisis. You act like this is something new though. He pulled this same stuff when republicans were in charge. Remember the bridge to nowhere? Coburn is likely the only reason anyone ever heard of it. And that was an earmark by a republican senator. This is how the senate works, but I don't see you complaining when democrats pull these stalling tactics. Well once again your recollections are inaccurate (unless you want to clarify "these stunts"). Coburn tried to attach an amendment to the Highway Bill where Republican Ted Stevens had his pork barrel project. The amendment was allowed to be debated and voted on (no one held it up with a technical maneuver). Furthermore the Republican Congress didn't remove the money, they still included it, removing the provisos for the bridges, but allowing Alaska to decide on how they wanted to spend the money. Therefore when the project died it was at the hands of the Alaska State Government not the Republican Congress. In typical hypocritical fashion Tom Coburn complained about Senator Stevens putting a... This has become so petty. How did Tom Coburn become the focus of these comments? If I recall, the original clip was about Nancy Pelosi. Tom Coburn is NOT the problem. The problem is that our representatives will spend all that they can spend if there is no oversight. Tom Coburn is only one person. He is not all powerful. Is he using congressional rules and regulations to attempt to stop overspending? Yes. Is he successful? No. There is still tons of "pork". I, for one, am tired of type of "pork" spending. George Bush was tired of this spending too. This is one reason why George Bush wanted the line item veto. One could argue that, "Well, it is only a few billion." I say that a... George Bush is a failure. He had a Republican congress and Republican Senate and spent more than any president in U.S. History. Taxpayer money means nothing to him. OK. Now you are complaining that we spend too much money. I think you need to stay on message that one person can stop the entire Congress so we can spend more. You message is very confusing in its point. I see people in government having an entitlement mentality. I don't have a problem with differing views about spending *for* the needs of the American people or debates as to how our taxes are to be allocated. What I do have a problem with is how they use their offices (even from the local level way down here) to enrich themselves and exult their sense of status. It's probably a subtle (or not so subtle) trap that most all fall into. It's like a teenager given his Dad's credit card with the Dad's good-faith entrustment. The list of such spending is huge. It could be flowers, or round-the-world trips, or offices, or staff, whatever.... Our elected officials, in my opinion, are well sal... @wjbuntz, You commented that W. wanted the line item veto insinuating that he was fiscally responsible. He didn't need a line item veto. He had a Republican House and a Republican Senate. He is the leader of our country. If he can not get a Republican House and Republican Senate to be fiscally responsible he is a failure. He did not use a single veto on any bill, including spending bills before the Democratic takeover of 2006. @jatfla, not every representative fits your stereotype. Example, Democratic Senator Russ Fiengold's net worth is listed at $19,000 (that's thousand). But that's only if you're looking for a representative that can view issues through the same prism that their constituents do. BobbyRutan, I still don't understand your point. What are you upset about? Spending too much money? Then you are upset about Tom Coburn blocking the spending of too much money. I guess you are just upset because you are not making much sense. Why don't you just drop this thread? Sorry wjbuntz, sometimes the history of others clippers comments enter into the thread and it doesn't exactly stay on course. I guess I am guilty of that. However there are no rules about clip comments evolving. Jatfla has this thing about the so called ineffectiveness and lack of accomplishing stated election goals and so I was pointing out who obstructs those goals. If I am upset about anything I guess it would be that Tom Coburn uses a personal prerogative that violates the essence of a democracy. But back to this clip, this is a paltry sum of money compared to the waste of money by Bush in Iraq and the spending of the Republican controlled 109th Congress. So you don't like the Iraq War and you think money is being wasted, there is nothing new here. A lot of people have this opinion. I don't but a lot of people do. But, why does that justify wasting money elsewhere? We are talking about billions in waste. This is not chump change. I don't really see your point. Is it your point that Bush is wasting money so he must be punished by wasting more money elsewhere? Presenting another viewpoint to a one sided clip. If your concern is about governmental waste why don't you talk about Bush and the Republican lead 109th congress. They set the record for governmental spending and debt. And your right it isn't chump change. And in my effort to display a differnet point of view, here is part of the article you chose not to clip. Republicans are spending more as well. House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) has increased spending 23 percent above what Pelosi spent when she held the same job. That would be 16 percent if some of Hastert’s closing-out costs were deducted. I did not clip the part above because it was not exactly relevant to the title. That's all. I don't think Pelosi should have blown 16K on flower nore do I believe that ANY member of this administration whether Republican or Democrat waste our money. You keep stating Republican this or that. So what? Are you saying that if Democrats waste our money that it is not really wasted because they are Democrats? I just clipped a message where $610 million was wasted at the U.N. This was neither Democrat or Republican. We also don't need bridges in Alaska for 60? people nor do we need spend all this money on pork projects on both side of the aisle. This stuff has to stop and the finger pointi... My contention would be that if you feel both parties are equally guilty of wasting money your clip title would not have been skewed towards highlighting only the Democratic Speaker of the House. You would have included a reference to Republican spending. I challenge you to clip an article stating the record governmental spending of the Republican controleed 109th Congress, if you're making the statement that you are fair and balanced. Some other parts of the article that were not clipped: Most of the $16,058 that Pelosi charged taxpayers for flowers, Elshami said, was for the visits of foreign dignitaries, such as Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, French President Nicolas Sarkozy... I believe the article at News Hounds explains the clipped article the best: This tidbit (the flower expenditure) was taken from a spending report released this morning. It had no news value except to potentially embarrass the Speaker and paint her as a free-spending Democrat. FOX and Friends, dare I say it, NEVER explores the reckless spending habits of this administration which will burden our children and grandchildren for years to come. So nit-picking at the Democratic Speaker's office expenses is transparently propaganda. Propaganda is the tool of the right? Funny I thought the left had exclusive rights on trashing, in speach and print, maybe I was wrong, maybe it's just an illusion perpetrated by that vast right wing conspriacy. It is the tool of the right in this particular incident. As usual, dl211, you have nothing to add to this debate. However it is refreshing that you focused on a comment and not the person who created the comment. You just may be evolving. The fact remains, that in the light of the record breaking spending and debt created by Bush and the Republican 109th Congress, $16,000 is a paltry sum to spend on dignitaries that the White House has invited to our country. If you actually read the article you will see that the White House was asked to respond on how much they spend on flowers and decoration but the chose not to respond (gosh, wonder why?). As usual, dl211, you have nothing to add to this debateBR - and as usual you're still a jack-ass. Like everything else you don't accept any wrongdoing by the left or criticize them when it's obvious, instead you always try to divert any bad attention back towards the right, it's sickening actaully. Can any liberal do any wrong in your feeble mind? Doesn't appear so. I could care less about ANYTHING you have to say, it's merely far-left garbage anyway. You know what I think of you and I in return, so get a life moron. Go peddle your goods elsewhere, not to me. And dl211 your still a shit for brains. If you could care less about what I have to say turn off your computer and do both of us a favor. Stop wasting the nations electricity and taxing your 2 brain cells. $16,000 dollars spent on decorations for foreign dignitaries that the White House invites to the U.S. is a joke. Address the record government spending by the Republicans in the 109th Congress and the Bush Administration. Rest up you'll need a lot of energy to try and cover up for your neocon buddies. If you could care less about what I have to say turn off your computer and do both of us a favor. Stop wasting the nations electricity and taxing your 2 brain cells.Yea right asshole, you start it and blame someone else, want to call mommie too you weak kneed POS. Hey bobby boy - I just used the ignor comments function reference you and it works. I no longer have to see any of the ignorant ramblings you equate to knowledge. Now you have a real lousy day now moron. Look at this guy, he is the first one to comment on another clipper and he believes he didn't start anything. What a complete and utter moron. Read through the clips and see who says the first thing about someone having there head in a certain place. And that is how it has been on every other clip. How can you have any respect for someone as simpleminded as that. I disagree with a lot of people here but dl211 is an example of those that make it a lesser place. He shows up on clips and has nothing to offer about the topics, just to call people moron or idiot, this or that. So I don't respect him and when he says something I will always respond in kind. That's how you treat people who try to bully and belittle. |
