danemorgan says: I really believe it is time that we have a license specifically for the release of content intended specifically to allow comercially driven dirivative works to be created while protecting the original work and allowing the requirement of attribution. Basically a mash-up of Private Label Rights, Creative Commons Licensing and Linkware concepts. It is a worthy discussion Dane. The problem with PLR is that the license can't be transferrable. You grant the license to one person, but that person can't provide reuse of any kind. For instance you shouldn't post PLR articles on a blog that carries a CC license. But people are releasing transferable PLR packages right now. They are calling them 'unrestricted PLR', or 'Master resale PLR'. This, to my mind is another reason a way of defining PLR Licenses similar to the CC method would be a good idea. It would help to clear up a lot of the confusion around PLR rights, and what exactly can be done, while allowing people to easily express their intent and fostering greater flexibility in the licensing choices. I fully agree that as things stand *most* PLR licenses would prohibit re-releasing the content uder a CC license, and really I don't see that changing. What I want to see is a paralel licensing method that is more freindly to the comercial uses that people look specifically to PLR for. |
