I wish they would just return the chimps to their natural habitats. I'm not a big fan of zoos.

Thats why I never visit them, it hurts me too much to see all the "inmates"

Given how endangered some species are, zoos may be the only hope for preserving some of them. The Milwaukee Zoo has some magnificent Amur (Siberian) Tigers, which are quite endangered in their home range.

Better that a black rhino live in a zoo than be killed for its horn.

Four years ago in Barlow CA the escape of chimps wasn't so peaceful. It was strange story indeed...

so all of you who want to return the chips to the wild.....you would like to take a chip who was bred in captivity fed buy a human and more than likely nurced buy a human back in the wild and expect the endangerd specise survive?

I guess that's a different issue flounderlani. I'd just like to see them any place other than behind bars at a zoo.

I didn't get it, WF. Can you be a little bit more specific? If it's possible, sure. Is this from that article?

That chimp was female who was trained to eat from plate with fork and knife and use toilet. Somehow the couple were forced to surrender her to the local zoo and after one of their visits other male chimps have compelled to open the cage and assaulted only husband with mutilation of his genitals and buttocks... I think the face also. Was that a kind of jealousy? In animal manner...

BTW about face. The chimp in New York, which was shot by police last summer, also mutilated the face of friend of its owner. Dangerous "pets", indeed. Better keep them where they belong...
