wildcat says: As demand for freshwater soars, planetary supplies are becoming unpredictable. Existing technologies could avert a global water crisis, but they must be implemented soon Water managers are scrambling in Florida, robbing peter to pay paul, and rightly getting sued around every corner. Quantity over quality is the rule allowing nasty water to inter the aquifer in high recharge areas. In some places all urban runoff is directed to sinkholes. In one county an average of 100cfps of the dirtiest water in the county is directed to underground passages for an instant recharge. This water is #2 effluent from a sewage treatment plant and runoff from city streets and parking lots. There is much more, and it only gets worse. Quantity is all they really care about. I'm sooo glad I'm ahead of T.Boone Pickens. He has the right idea, but is going about it all wrong. We might be running short of fresh water, but I haven't heard soft drinks companies complaining. They can afford to let water become a product, to be factored into their expenses, at the expense of many who need fresh water. Greed We have the technology to provide the water - its money and greed that prevents us from doing so. We get what we deserve The governing board of our state water managers is made up of appointees made by our governor. You would think they would be highly qualified professionals needed for the complex water problems we face here in Florida. Googling each member on the governing board shows they are presently holding positions in the construction field. |
