Read the whole piece. I have been seeing this everywhere, it is gaining traction, so that is why I clipped it. This was dismissed by a federal judge, now he is trying to get a Supreme Court injunction.

As far as I can tell the consitution says:

No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty five years, and been fourteen Years a resident within the United States.
Does "natural born citizen" really mean "born in the US"? I don't think so, note "been fourteen years a resident within the United States".

I may well be mistaken, is there anyone with better understanding of your constitution who can clarify this.

Does "natural born citizen" really mean "born in the US"?
Yes, it does, to be a natural born citizen you must have been born in the US, or have been a US citizen prior to 1789 when the Constitution was adopted. This was a precaution the founding fathers took to ensure that a noble or other who was disloyal to the US could become president.

That should read "could NOT become president"!

to avoid a constitutional crisis
Won't there be an even bigger crisis to deal with, if they do?

OK, I bow to your better knowledge. I must say I am surprised. To me natural born citizen implies someone who was American by birth and not someone who acquired citizenship later in life. This would have nothing to do with birthplace but to do with parentage.

Anyway as a Brit I accept I have little knowledge of this - strange phrase to use though.

It is actually a controversial part of the Constitution, with various ways to be interpreted. The parentage aspect does come into play, as well. If there is in fact a case against Obama, there is also one that could be raised against McCain

Heil Bush! My fear is that if this actually causes the election to be delayed(?) Bush will enact Martial Law, as he has given himself the right to do, and we'll be waiting for a cold day in hell for another "President".

Hawaii officials declare Obama birth certificate genuine Associated Press

State officials say there's no doubt Barack Obama was born in Hawai'i.

Health Department Director Dr. Chiyome Fukino said today she and the registrar of vital statistics, Alvin Onaka, have personally verified that the health department holds Obama's original birth certificate.

Fukino says that no state official, including Republican Gov. Linda Lingle, ever instructed that Obama's certificate be handled differently.

She says state law bars release of a certified birth certificate to anyone who does not have a tangible interest.

Some...

Obama's birth certificate verified by state:
The state's Department of Health director on Friday released a statement verifying the legitimacy of Sen. Barack Obama birth certificate.

The state has received multiple requests for a copy of Obama's birth certificate. State law does not allow officials to release the birth certificate of a person to someone outside of the family.

There were rumors that Obama was born in Kenya, where his father is from. The Constitution requires that the president be a natural born citizen of the U.S.

While many sites and news organizations have released copies provided by the...

I don't necessarily doubt that he was born in the US,but is his birth certificate a forgery? Where his parents in fact really married when he was born? If not he takes the citizenship of his father as the law making any child born in the US a citizen,no matter his parents status was not enacted yet. Also in 1961 the terminology used in regards to the "RACE" of his father would have been Negro, not African as the document on his website shows Political correctness was a non-issue in that era, and his mother's race is listed as Caucasian, not American. See where I'm going with this?? Someone had access to, and changed information on this birht certificate.

Does "natural born citizen" really mean "born in the US"?

Yes.

Is Obama a natural born citizen?

Yes.

Could you be considered a 'natural born citizen,' if you were born to two American parents while they were overseas? Or what about a child who might be born to a US soldier family while stationed in Germany or something like that.

McCain, for example was born at the Coco Solo U.S. military base in the Panama Canal Zone.

George Romney, who ran for the Republican party nomination in 1968, was born in Mexico to U.S. parents.

There was a previous candidate who was born in Paris, France and acquired his citizenship at birth through his parents.

It would seem therefore that having two USA...

Don't really know much about the ins and outs of it but surely Obama wouldn't have come some far if there were any (real) doubt of his citizenship. If he were not a citizen then how, on earth, would he expect to hide that 'fact'? Sounds as if smoke is being blown up the collective arse of the electorate . . again.

that should read 'so far' and not 'some far'

Well, through the collective smoke we made our way to victory, with Obama at the lead.

There wasn't anybody else around who could have done it, I believe.

Looking at what he did and how hard he had to work and how his campaign staff had to work so hard and do all the right things, raise all the money, be in the right place at the right time, rally so much energy and enthusiasm....I don't think Hilary Clinton would have won.

She was not that inspiring, just the same-old, same-old and her issues and positions were not as good, either, IMO.

...just my last 2-cents thought about it, 2-days after Obama victory.
