This article from Mother Jones lists a sampling of people who were unqualified for the positions they were given in the Bush administration, and who when failing at their jobs found themselves falling up into even better positions. I could only clip one, but I urge you to read the entire list.

Sorry Zasel;
But that is how things have gone in this country for 30 years. Just look at our Corporate CEOs. But I also have to look at the entire world. Thats not really much better.

When did we loose our common sense? Or maybe just a few of us have that quality. Would be nice to become
dumb. You know the old saying.

Ignorance is bliss.

This is not the Bush White House, The Bush Term or Bush anything. As much as we all hate to admit it. It's the NATION'S white house, The Nation's agenda and the Nation's government. If we allow the government to make decisions against our wishes it's nobodies fault but our own. If we allow our representatives to ignore our wishes we are doing this to ourselves. Bitch, moan and complain all you want. As long as we tolerate this type of government we get what we deserve. You listen to advisers and analysts that push their own agendas over yours. Most of our voices are silenced by pompous loud-mouthed power-hungry puppets of big business. When did the people of the nation lose their voice, My guess is in the 1800s.

skwirlinator, I happen to totally agree with you. But for whatever reason, our country's citizens are passive for the most part. They will piss and moan, occasionally write emails to the elected officials but that is about it. Where is the passion that our citizens should have? You are right to put all of this on our shoulder's but may I please, sincerely ask you if you have any suggestions as to what we, as citizens, can do to change things? I would love to see us take to the streets, but that simply is not done, with the exception of some well planned and publicized demonstrations. But they are one time events. What can we do on a consistent basis that will actually make a difference?

What about registered polling?
What about registered feedback action?

What about nominations that reflect the people's wishes not the power of the pocketbook?

How about registering annual votes along with the taxes?
Make it multiple choice:
a. same person
b. one of the rivals
c. none of the above
During election years it would be a list of the final candidates.
You could include any questionnaire that is needed. Since taxes are mandatory all the responses will be attached to that person making them liable for their answers.

KISS
Keep It Simple Stupid

Weekly polls with yes or no answers - Respond by mailed card, phone, text msg or internet.
Every news cast shows the poll each day. Radio and TV

Annually poll the continuation of the most important current policies

Anyone that is caught lying on behalf of the nation is immediately removed and the runner up takes the position. The guilty party or parties are then tried and punished. If the runner up does it it goes to the next then the next and so on. That should clear the crap out of Washington so the honest people can work.
It will also sever those long standing ties with commerce and industry and their effects on decisions.

You claim taxes as a citizen you ge...

People who refuse the annual vote are audited. If you don't like it pay your taxes and vote

Attack and they put a Hostess at the helm. Why ? Because she's covered by insurance.
The problem with appointing people who don't know what they're doing to the top of an organization, is that the organization will suffer. The large salaries offered are to credit for both experience and capability. The opinion of the people will depend on the effects of the appointments on the operations. They must be seen to do their jobs, and I don't know who will cover for them if they can't. This isn't an issue that can be swept away by another 'crises'. People are learning they need to watch, and remember.

How about stop electing dumbsh**s like W because he's the guy you would most like to drink a beer with. As much as the other side detests Clinton I never remember anybody saying that his appointees were grossly unqualified.

Some have already seen this clip but it just further points out that the qualifications W looks for are loyalty and not subject expertise. W's favorite Johnson

I do think one of the better things that could take place is changing our form of government to allow for more parties to be represented. If this means a parliamentary form of government so be it. At least in a parliamentary government all parties are rep...

See what gets me is that we see corruption and slanted decisions in the news all the time. You, I and the general public are fed up with it but we have no say in the government that is supposed to be for the people and of the people.
There must be a way developed that will allow the people to run the government that we elect. Businesses are part of our nation and so are the people. What is great for business may not be good for the people. The people should win because they are ... well... People.
Currently our representative of the people (President, congress and crew) are not speaking for the people (me and You). Decisions are being made that are directly against what We The People...

Sorry, but the conservatives have effectively demonized polls in this country so that they won't be believed even though it is an academic scientific field of study.

Rig the elections and then blame the polls when the results don't match the polls.

Funny that we still use polling to justify elections in other countries as to whether they are legitimate or not.
