The question that arises from this in my mind is a question of whether this will set a precendent in that would a Mormon request the book of Mormon, a scientologiigist their book (whatever the heck it is...maybe L.R. Hubbard Dyanetics?).

Also as per the title of the clip -- would this set a precedent for someone deciding the Pledge of Allignce wording should be changed? Does this mean that courts would offer the option for other books besides the Bible to place your hand on to swear to tell the truth, etc.?

I think those questions were there from the moment the Bible was used. As for the Pledge of Allegiance, "under God" was only added in the 1950s. In reality, removing that wouldn't change the pledge, it would restore it.

Hey, as long as they really do what they pledge to do, I'm all for taking the oath even on bozo the clown.

I agree. As long as the pledge is kept, it doesn't matter.

I think that in this day and age it would help for them to use a George Orwell novel instead. That way we'll know that they really are trying to uphold American values.
