"The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office is conducting an investigation to be monitored by the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office. Taser stun-guns are largely unregulated and police departments don't mandate strict controls on their use. In 2005 the ACLU of Northern California released a critical report after studying Taser use at 50 police departments. Their findings indicate that since 1999 at least 148 people in the United States and Canada have died after police shocked them with Tasers."

Activists in San Jose are calling for an immediate end to the use of taser stun-guns in that city. "
