Is there a bigger socialist on the planet right now than George W. Bush?

Also, the mind-numbing historical ignorance of these people never ceases to astonish.

David Gergen, former adviser to Presidents Nixon, Ford, Reagan, and Clinton, recently reminded us that Ronald Reagan was a champion of "socialism."

Gergen:

"Teddy Roosevelt, a Republican, was very much an advocate of progressive taxation, and that is the rich should pay more than the poor in terms of taxes. Now, one of the most effective poverty programs we've had in the last 3 decades is called the Earned Income Tax Credit. It's a program whereby if you're a working person, a working couple, and you're below the poverty line, the government will actually give you money. That's a redistributive program. It's a program that takes money from the upper classes and gives it to the working poo...

The Republicans are the party of Ignorance. They control their patsies by keeping them ignorant, and actively spreading ignorance and misinformation. The only way the Republicans can ever succeed is if they keep the electorate paranoid, ignorant, scared and stupid.

It's no wonder that people who support McCain always fit one or more of those categories.

McCain likes socialism too, which is why part of his bailout plan is to take taxpayers money and "spread it" to those (fools) who signed up for mortgages they cannot afford so they can "stay in their homes". That is communism 101, straight from McCain's mouth. This is not to justify Obama, but to show that Both are corrupt.

Vote Constitution or Libertarian party to prevent either outright Communism (Obama) or Socialism Lite (McCain).

(definition from the East Oxford Middleclass Dictionary) anyone to the left of a greedy, bent-sex crazy, 70 year old neo-con.

I used to think half of America was full of uneducated fools that just don't know any better, the poor things. Now I know it for sure.

I simply cannot understand why the word Socialist is used as an insult in the USA!!!

Obama has been accused of being friends with an "Extremist" politician, Jose Rodriguez Zapatero, our president in Spain. Why is he an "extremist?" because he listened to the Spanish people and took Spain out of Iraq? Or because Spanish people all have state provided health care, or maybe because some Spanish people (not all by any means) get unemployment benefits when they are fired? I just can't believe the ignorance of American people, along with their selfishness too, which is reflected in their rejection of Socialism, which has the only purpose of helping those who are worse off in society and enable...

They don't wanna know, brightlight. America will never admit, that some other countries looong ago, figured out how to make things work. It's a "macho" thing. It would be like admitting defeat, to even look to others' successes. They'll stick to greed capitalism if it kills them. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink. So they go thirsty. It's such a shame, but hey... they have "homeland security" and bombs and poverty instead. Each to his own, I guess.

You're kidding, right? The most ignorant people I know are Democrats, especially when it concerns economics. Democrats control their "patsies" by keeping them dependent on the state. BTW, GW is NOT a Republican! He is a RINO as is McCain. If your messiah does win I won't be as bummed as many because it should cause a cleansing of the Republican party or give birth to a real conservative 3rd party.

Socialism is not a bad word. Technically neither is communism used in the correct way. Just because it went bad with one country doesn't mean that it can't be implemented better elsewhere.
I'm not saying I want us to be a communist country, but socialism (at least a little bit) is a good thing. We are supposed to be a single country, a single entity. The country is only as strong as it's weakest link, and if there exists too much poverty, and bad health, the whole country suffers. People can't work if they're not healthy, they can't buy what they need, companies go bankrupt and rich people suffer too. They don't take these things into account when they start yelling about "welfare" and ...

"Socialism"

America doesn't like Muslims. (a 6th of the world population) They don't like "Commies", past and present. (There goes,Cuba, Russia, China. North Korea etc.) They don't like the Mexicans. Or Arabs. Or the French. Or Iran. Or Syria. Or Venezuela. Or the Palestinians. They're not big fans of coloured people. (Lots of them are Muslim.too, so that's a double strike) They're running out of people to hate! Maybe they are getting bored with having Muslims as enemies and "commies" would be a rerun. Social Democracies and "socialists" are all there's left to hate!.Thtat's the whole rest of the developed world!.Who's left to hate?

Republicans, warmongers, zionist extremist have been pumping lies into the USA blood for many years now.

They are the ones who want to start a war with Iran.

Right?

They are the ones who led the USA into the War in Iraq. Right.

It hard to respond to many of the complaints against my fellow countrymen because...well, some of it is true; they've been poisoned by the propaganda of war and hate.

On the other hand, as everyone knows, people in different countries are not all the same.

In three days -- if everyone here keeps campaigning -- we will elect a black man as President; that will certainly indicate that we're not as racist as some here imply. No?

A key thing to realize is that the ...

Because we are supposed to live in a Constitutional Republic in which the liberty of INDIVIDUALS (not COLLECTIVIST groups) reign supreme, i.e., you can ask me to help you, but you can't FORCE me to, a.k.a. at the point of a gun as the IRS ultimately will do if you don't comply.

Addendum: Lenders were pressured to give home loans to people who otherwise would not qualify for these loans. The banks complied and then sold these loans to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (taxpayer subsidized) who guaranteed them. That was the proverbial match that lit the fire and caused the housing meltdown. Moral of the story, don't let them put you on the hook for such "feel-good" programs. They ultimately hurt those they were meant to help.

It would be a mistake to think of Republican lies about their values (or lies in their campaign) as some sort of ideology -- it's really about greed and corruption.

Predatory capitalism might be a good term for it.
Predatory capitalism and WALL STREET SOCIALS are the realities staring us in the face.

So? What's your point? I live in a socialist country. I have more liberty than Americans. No one forces me to do anything. The IRS comes down harder on Americans that cheat on their tax than Canada Revenue comes down on Canadians that cheat.

@HookEmHorns: The banks weren't pressured; they decided on their own to make risky loans. That's part of the normal business of a bank. They win some, they lose some. The problem only came when those loans were packaged into financial products, and fraudulently given a rating as an excellent investment. They would have never been a problem, if the banks hadn't been greedy and criminally-bent.

darkeforce here we are taught that the rights of the individual are paramount and that's what makes us different and better than the rest of the world. Fact is that it's a bunch of bullshit. If it were true there would be no drug laws much less a war on drugs. I feel much freer when I visit Mexico, less safe. After all freedom isn't about being safe all cost. We are probably the most brainwashed people on the planet.

I suppose it might work.. if you live all alone on a desert island. .

Just kidding, but could that be the drive behind George W. Bush? "The dictator". And Wall Street bankers etc? CEO's? Their needs above those of the society? Or their RIGHTS above those of society, as they would see it. I do see the "feel" of the words, the "feel" of freedom, but to me it seems somewhat unrealistic and if I may be so bold, selfish.

I'm certain that Republicans think that the rights of the individual matter. The only problem is that they think that the rights of of the Rich Individual matter more than the rights of the Middle Classed or Poor Individual.

Personally, I'll stick to the left-wing, where they care about everyone equally, regardless of what your paycheque might be. Money doesn't buy power there.
11-1-2008 8:32 AM
lifecyce1898
No they don't really. If you care about the rights of the individual you don't legislate out of a book full of dogma that no one can really live by but that some revere and others (me) consider reprehensible. They claim to align themselves with Libertarians and they claim fiscal responsibility. Neither claim could be further from the truth. They use divisive tactics and count on the ignorance of the average voter, who they have nothing but contempt for. Up to now it's worked extremely well. If it works again the end of the empire will be within the foreseeable future. Maybe not a bad thing.

All good points and criticisms. Thanks for pointing them out.

I see many similar things and paid some dues for that; and good things also came around as well.

A firm concluding idea, though, was told to be by a Hopi Elder out on the Second Mesa (Second Mesa, AZ, USA).

"You have to elect better leaders," he said.

Sitting in his stone house, looking out the large panoramic window to the wide vista of the desert that stretched out below us there was plenty to calm time to consider this. And plenty of silence.

I was once arrested with hundreds of others in a political protest (and we rocked the jail cells with our songs and rally cries) -- I'v...
