　民主党の鳩山代表は２３日のテレビ朝日の報道番組で、核持ち込みを巡る日米密約について「持ち込みをこれからはなくさないといけない」と語った。総選挙後に政権交代して首相に就任した場合、オバマ米大統領との首脳会談には「覚悟をもって臨む」と述べ、「持ち込み禁止」の確約を米側に求める考えを示した。

　鳩山氏は「（密約は）あるという蓋然性（がいぜんせい）が高い」と指摘。民主党が政権につけば米側資料を含めて調べ、結果を明らかにする考えを示した。「持ち込ませず」と定めた非核三原則についても「米国としても守る気概を持ち始めている。持ち込ませないようにする。オバマ大統領との信頼関係が必要だ。覚悟をもって臨むしかない」と語った。

　また「持ち込ませないということは十分にできる。自信がある」とも強調。三原則の法制化を民主党に求めている社民党の福島党首も同番組で「持ち込ませずはきちんとできると思う」と語り、鳩山氏の発言に賛意を表明した。

　一方、来年度予算の国債発行額について鳩山氏は「増やさない。当然減らす努力をしないといけない」と、０９年度より抑える考えを示した。０９年度の新規国債発行額は過去最大の４４兆円に達しており、来年度はこの規模を上限として発行抑制を図る。

　さらに、鳩山氏は郵政事業の見直しについて「地方に分割をして、地域の活性化のために使わせてもらうような金融機関にしていく。それしかない」と語り、現行の４分社化から、地域ごとに再編する案に前向きな姿勢を示した。
