It's what criminals do when they want to cover up their crimes.. they destroy the evidence.

Oh my, are they still holding guns to peoples heads and making them read naughty books? What is wrong with people like this? Nobody is forced to read anything. I think even in schools any questionable book on a reading list is provided with an alternate title if one is unsuitable.

The last time I saw people burning books it was on this really old black and white film, though it was a little hard to understand as THE NARRATION WAS IN GERMAN.

There was an episode of "The Waltons", somewhere in the period from '77 to '78 (when WWII was looming in the background of the storyline) in which the townsfolk got together and collected all the German language books to burn them. John-Boy tried to stop them, and to prove his point, he grabbed a book off the pile and asked a German-speaking resident to read from it - "Am Anfang schafte Gott Himmel und Erde" - it was a bible.
