"Censorship" being the 8th. Thanks for posting that. I am nearly 100% product focused, but i have been pushed recently to explain to people (inestors and potential investors) how we're going to market clipmarks. My answer, which usually leaves people staring at me witha a bewildered look on their face, is that we're going to make clipmarks so good that people will spread the word for us. If any of you have other suggestions i'd be all ears...will definitely help me in some of my meetings Those people staring at you with bewildered faces don't know yet the power of the Web2.0 paradigm. I don't know if Clipmarks will be successful or not (I sincerely hope so) but I'm convinced that the "new" emerging Web2.0 companies will be successfull by the power of their networks of users. Not adverstisement or "usual" marketing. I already spoke of it to some friends, some will bait I'm sure I don't know why advertising on clipmarks should be something bad. I wouldnt stop using the service as long as the ads are contextual or well integrated. We don't have to talk about pop ups, but text ads and some image ads wouldnt disturb me. But I would not like to invocate google or yahoo textads. I would do it with filtered RSS which contain ads or links and description to shops (books, downloads, music whatever) which can be well selected affiliates. The feeds could then be integrated to tagpages and so on. btw: Eric, I'll be on vacation from end of the week till April. I will be off the web during my vacation... Pls. don't forget our Idea which we talked about via email. We're still on fire. we're going to miss you funana!! i hope you're going somewhere warm and sunny. would you mind sending me that email again. just want to make sure we're on the same page. If there were ads on clipmarks, non blockable with ad-block, I wouldn't use it anymore. Simple as that. yep. I will miss you guys here too. I'll spend my time in west africa and its warm and sunny West Africa, damn lucky you. I'm stuck here in London where it's like minus 200 and rain... Hey Guillaume, same here in germany.brrrrr freeezy cold and snowing all the time... You cant imagine how lucky I am to have 4 weeks in the sun with bodyboading the hole day! Yeaaaaaah! Back to topic Guillaume: Did you stop using Google when they decided to add their Adwords in the right side of the SERPs? No, because it wasn't intrusive. I probably should have, though, good point... Anyway, this is not relevant anymore, because I stopped using it due to China censorship that wouldnt have stopped me from using it. but bad Serps do and I like yahoo more and more... What SE doesnt deliver Ads? The local librarian ads/smads, who cares if China is sensored(Its the Government anyway). I use programs and site for what they do for ME. If ClipMarks gets usurped by something better I will move on. Right now it does all I wish for and more. I tell everyone... If I post in a newsgroup or forum about something I have or find in ClipMarks I am sure to include the link to the ClipMark in the post. If funding from non-intrusive ads will help develop ClipMarks and make it even better I say "Go For IT!" Heck, You could put a link to a whole page of ads 'Look who is sponsoring ClipMarks now' and I'd click to it to see who is on it. Thanks Skwirlinator. I'm not so concerned about one day including ads on the clipmarks site. I have a pretty clear idea of how i would do it and i don't think it would mess with the experience in a bad way at all. My concern is that i think many people are having a pretty difficult time figuring out what clipmarks does and why/how/when they should use it. I'm trying to figure out what we could do better to make it easier for people to more easily embrace it as part of their web experience. Yes exactly Eric. Some of my friends can't figure out what this site is about, even after having surfed on it a bit and read my explanations. They first see it as a kind of del.icio.us Paradoxally, I may surprise you, but I think one of the greatest benefit of clipmarks is the relatively small size of the community. I have the impression that almost everyone know everyone, a bit like going to the pub after work to have a nice chat in front of a pint of Guiness with your friends or colleagues. The amazing part is that those friends are scattered all over the world, with very different backgrounds, contexts, opinions and cultures. I like that. And the good (addictive I should say) part is the... I'm trying to figure out what we could do better to make it easier forI think a more integrated firefox extension would help a lot. Something like a 'live clipboard' function in a sidebar, I mentioned in a comment of the clipmark 'Clipmarks easy submit IDEAS CLIP!!!": What about some kind of live, dynamic Clipmarks Sidebar in Firefox which would let you - drag & drop selections - rearrange/delete some stuff you clipped - highlight what's in there - add some kind of comment (like the inline and block comments in Scrapbook)The next thing I... |
