The use of Turnitin is actually pretty controversial (at least around here) because Turnitin actually keeps all of the submitted work (all of the students' work). Many of my university professors refused to use it. Also, one of the nearby universities just stopped using it because of student and professor complaints. Wouldn't that be a form of publishing? or copyright? Yeah, it's an intellectual property issue (both the fact that they are copying the students' work and the fact that they are essentially using them to make money).
