Silkweaver says:
Looking from the perspective of a futuristic, perfect virtual reality, we are forced to question the very essence of our existence. What is the point of living if a utopia is provided for us? Once the superficial shell of reality is peeled from us, what is left of the human soul? What are the common denominators of our existence?

The virtual world paradigm opens up our eyes to the limitations of reality, and shows us the true essence of what it means to be human.

As an avid gameplayer, I enjoy playing online more than playing the actual game, but to want to live in a virtual world I find just a little odd. I'd even go as far to say that its one of the reasons that society as a whole if breaking down around us.

Virtual worlds today are still experimental sluggish and need more than a little of technical knowledge and patience. This is going to change very fast in the coming years. A matrix like virtual world is close than 30 years, I believe, perhaps much closer. Living in a virtual world will become a real option eventually. I wonder how are we going to use the freedom that it will allow.

Today it seems that the main reason for people to strive to virtual lives is that they think that life inside a virtual world will be better then their current life. However , it seems today that the nature of most humans is to always look for a better situation so once everyone is in the virtual world the same thing will occur again(from a vritual world to beyond?). So are virtual worlds going to be another form of entertainment that might last a bit longer or do you see here a breakthrough that will allow humans to grow beyond it's ever growing need for a better situation through this uniqe habitat for humans(virtual worlds that is)?

Virtual worlds, will become, eventually, as real as our physical existence, but they will not be constrained by the laws of physics or other laws as our physical world is. It will be constrained only by the limits of our imagination and computation power. What will begin as a form of entertainment will become a vast space of exploration, the exploration of our own imaginations and minds. Will it be enough, I cannot even start to guess, I surely hope I will be there to find out

This literally blows my mind. Thank you!

What if, we'll eventually gain the computational power to create a "big bang" inside those virtual worlds, and a universe similar to the one we live in today would be created. Makes me wonder how "virtual" it would be... or in other words, how really "real" is the universe we live in today...
