Afghanistan may prove harder to get out of than Vietnam. It has never being subdued. Even the British at their best could only contain it.

Actually, the US worked quite tirelessly to ensure the USSR would fail in Afghanistan. Now that the newly-installed Afghan government has signed off on the TAPI pipeline deal, I'm sure we can all rest easier knowing it was all for a good cause.
