chestnut501 says: Ouch! Maybe they can come up with a new cereal for him to promote! Cannabis Flakes, Stems and Seeds, Sugar Pot Pops, Special K Buds.... Tomorrow is grocery store day for me. I think I'll buy several Kellogg products. I have nothing against Mr. Phelps and I'm sorry he got photographed in such a compromising position. It may seem harmless to most people but it's still against the law and he is a *public* figure who was representing a product. They are free to "fire" their representative if they so choose. However, with the climate rapidly changing here in the US, private companies may not be able (for much longer) to make these kinds of independent decisions. You'd rather support an American Olympic athlete than a prosperous business that employs 1000s of workers? Where's your desire to help the economy?? Like with so many issues, there are a lot of factors to consider here. You do make a good point. In doing so, you have reminded me that Kelloggs is a Michigan company. Being a loyal Michigander myself and considering the state of our own economy, I would continue to buy Kellogg's products, if I wasn't lactose intolerant. By a similar token, I trust your cars are American made? Absolutely. And I go out of my way (though it's often impossible since 'made in China' is everywhere) to check where a product is made. I also realize that even though it may say "made in America" parts/portions of the product have been out sourced. Free-trade is a double-edged sword. I think Kellog's did right thing. Baseball needs to clean up their act too and not allow any records to stand that involved steroid use. As long as we *allow* (by public opinion) these things to slide, we are encouraging and propagating behavior that is unsportsmen-like, un-ethical, and sending the wrong messages to our children. Phelps was/is an excellent swimmer. I take nothing from that accomplishment. Sadly, he let his guard down and was made an object of ridicule. n...I could not agree with you more about baseball. Husband was in the minor leagues; things can not continue as they have or the sport will not maintain any kind of credibility. Frankly, that goes for everything in life. All done. chestnut, I have been able to use soya milk on my cereals for a good while. Doesn't help coffee greatly but I don't react to it. The boycott of Kellogs will not cost the company for long and the bong is what people will remember. Certainly won't encourage people to change laws. As far as Phelps is concerned - put your hand up if you haven't done something as stupid. As for Kelloggs, their food is overly processed and not much good for you. Down with Kellogg's ha ha glad to see silent majority can speak with there wallets,, processed sugar flakes yuck.Sportsmen wouldn't eat it anyway its just marketing spin.Bad laws are made to be broken. Tabsey, Thanks for the tip. They also make All-Bran which Husband has eaten almost every morning of his life for the last 9 yrs. It tastes like cardboard. Something that yucky must be good for you. :~) I agree with you jatfla regarding Kellog's prerogative to drop Phelps, but I differ somewhat on the implied duty to continue buying their products. If you don't like a business' practices (or obviously their products/services), by all means don't support them by buying it, regardless of where their located. I recall Christians boycotting retailers that discouraged or outright dis-allowed "Christmas" to be in their stores, opting for the more broad "happy holidays" or whatever. I'm for letting each party act as they will; freedom to run a business as it sees fit, and freedom to patron businesses based on your individual discretion. OMG, I typed the wrong their...shudder. That's funny Rustee...at least you noticed and care. I wasn't implying that someone who liked the product to stop buying from that company or vice versa. Only that given options/choices I want to support products made in America not because of who their spokesman might be. |
