Politicians don't write the law. lawyers write the law in psedo Latin, very few politicians understand it (unless they once were lawyers) and go along 'party lines' or a 'leaders' opinion, and it is passed according to the advice of a lawyers, or the contribution of a lobby group. The reason the execution is condemned is because while it is as painless as death ever is it is in PUBLIC view. Executions by lethal injection and electric chair, have the potential to be excruciating, and the presence of a doctor is a Legal requirement, Not a medical safeguard. If a doctor decides that an execution was screwed up it's a bit late. The executions are done in locked room with a limited,Specified Audience unless there are remarkably unusual circumstances. Witchcraft ? Semantics. Todays drug dealers both legal and illegal are today's equivalent of apothecaries and witches. Of course there are Black and White witches but the trick can be knowing the difference. Very often the difference can be impossible to know until it is too late. I'll be damned if the 'law' ever has a clue and very often it's worse when it does. They can be masters of reaping the profits while allowing what could best be described as the 'loser' to be condemned often to death.
The number of crimes for which the death penalty applied is both remarkable, and frightening.
