willhelm says: Natural progression of the archtype leftist. In the USA the Bush regime calls this the power of the unitary executive and it is exemplified by Bush's numerous "signing statements," in which he declares that he is not obligated to obey the laws the Congress has just passed and he has just signed. Of course, when a leftist like Chavez does anything like what Bush does, it's an outrage. But when a USA president like Bush does it, it's perfectly understandable and not the least bit contrary to democracy. And all of that is true by definition, of course, and it is unpatriotic to question it. Outstanding defense of Chavez, DanaGarrett. Your assertions are quite entertaining. Though I feel a bit guilty due to my suspicions of your state of mind. Relax, only 2 more years. I watched American Idol last night. Contestants with zero singing ability, nonetheless with astonishing self confidence, and in completely delusional denial. I was reminded of those with Bush Derangement Syndrome such as Mr Dana and several others here at The Clip. As I so often say, it's surreal. ...excuse me, Mr Garrett Oh, come on, Guys. It's facile and cheap to offer as an "answer" speculations about someone's political motives. It's also boorish. My point is still taken. When two executive actions result in the same outcome--enacting law by decree or by "signing statements"--they are effectively an identical pair. That's a matter of logic not motive. Only a naive patriotism imagines they are self-evidently different. Congrats, you win the prize for most loaded sentence in the 10 words or less category. Very nicely crafted Mr Garrett; better if in service of a point of logic, but well done nonetheless. Welcome to The Clip. They are worthy of each other tbh. I bet Bush would love finding a way to stay president for more. Or maybe his supporters in all these.... |
