I've written before about how the notion of "average" is confusing because it's <A href="http://www.fallacyfiles.org/glossary.html#Ambiguous">ambiguous</A> between two common measures of typicality―mean and median―and a third, less common one―mode. In this case, it appears that median and mean are being confused. It's not logically impossible for the median to be as reported, but it <EM>would</EM> be impossible for those numbers to be means.
