Nerfzilla says: I hope I'm not being a jayus.....! Jayus - Indonesian: someone who tells a joke so unfunny you can't help laughingUseful word and meaning.I know a couple of jayus-people Kamaki - Greek: the young local guys strolling up and down beaches hunting for female touristslol All-time classic word around here Tartle - Scottish: to hesitate when you are introducing someone whose name you can't quite rememberI could use that too.And now my favorite: Snyavshi Shtany, PO VOLOSAM NE GLADYAT - Russian: once you've taken off your pants it's too late to look at your hair.Great clip, thanks! One I'm sure you'll find hugely useful in Athens is: Poronkusema - Finnish: the distance equal to how far a reindeer can travel without a comfort break. I know I'll be using, "Oka/SHETE - Ndonga, Nigeria: urination difficulties caused by eating frogs before the rain has duly fallen." all the time here in New York. But I adore, "Kanjus Makkhicus - Hindi: a person so miserly that if a fly falls into his cup of tea, he'll fish it out and suck it dry before throwing it away." and tell me you aren't familiar with at least one, person who is always "Gadrii Nombor Shulen Jongu - Tibetan: giving an answer that is unrelated to the question, literally "to give a green answer to a blue question". I'm glad you liked it too great find. thanks for clipping! Its actually Kanjus Makhichoos....this is a pretty commonly used phrase in Hindi Shukriya, Deepti. I am taking Hindi lessons in NYC @ Berlitz right now. Of course I had to read the entire article, thanks for the 'lead-in'... you are? that's great to know Nerfzilla....how do you find it so far? I find it challenging but I am LOVING it. I have a vocabulary of around 60 words and I can read and write vowels, matra, and consonants, but I cannot yet read or write any conjunct consonants. The grammar is quite difficult for me but I am still enjoying my classes very much, thank you, Deepti. Try watching some bollywood movies....I know that helped me quite a bit....in the beginning you may not understand much but aftr a few, your sentence construction etc will definitely improve. I picked up a lot from listening to my north Indian friends speak to each other also Hindi is not my mother tongue either & I found matras a little complicated in school...now I speak hindi quite well. What fun!! |
