Eaglewings says: In the words of Hillary Clinton ' It takes a village' why does it take scientific studies and polls to make us aware of what is going on in our own families and culture? I mean does it really require society to tell us what is wrong with our families? DADS must someone else tell you what is appropriate behavior for your sons and daughters? As long as there is pop culture and idols are made of television stars our young people will be tempted to look like what they see on TV and in the movies. Perhaps a return to decency and a little old fashion modesty is in order? I totally agree with Eaglewings. Eaglewings, I agree with you too. Hopefully seeing what has come of Britney Spears will teach some of these wanna be Britney's that her way is not as glamorous or desirable as it may seem. I, too, agree with Eaglewings. Well, for the most part. Fathers were mentioned, but lets not forget about the mothers. As a mom of a 5-year-old, excuse me, 5 1/2 year-old girl (gotta get that 1/2 in there) I'm concerned about the family unit in a whole. It's my opinion that it ALL starts in the home. Why does a 6-year-old girl even know what an eating disorder is? How does a 10-year-old know about 'eye-candy' ? And why are the girls of this age even concerned about "sliding their low-cut jeans over these 'eye-candy' panties"? And French maid costumes? Come on people! Who, in the world, would let there pre-teen daughter wear such a thing? Perhaps a return to decency and a little old fashi... You are very welcomed hayliijsmom. I am so glad that moms too feel like dads on this subject. My comment concerning DADS was not meant to neglect moms but it was an attempt to awaken sleeping dads to their need for involvement in their daughters lives. I feel as a society our dad's roles are woefully inadequate in too many homes. I am not sure why this is the case but it appears to be more and more prevalent as we get more affluent. Perhaps the pursuit of riches has blinded us to the real riches in our lives guys? Being single and not having the joy of a son or daughter to call me daddy makes my heart ache when I see dads absent from these precious young lives. I would give anything to hav... Amazing. For the last two days, our precious and, I thought, innocent and sheltered, 6 year old grand-daughter has commented on how skinny she is. In each case, her Dad and I have said that she is just perfect just the way she is and not to be bothered about her "skininess". We can only discern that it has come from her Dad going and taking her brother and her to the gym while he works out. You just NEVER know! I despise this current culture that sexualizes our children; it's obscene. However, this seems to be what our culture is formulating. |
