Summary: Religion has always been a major force in U.S. politics, but the recent surge in the number and the power of evangelicals is recasting the country's political scene -- with dramatic implications for foreign policy. This should not be cause for panic: evangelicals are passionately devoted to justice and improving the world, and eager to reach out across sectarian lines.

Walter Mead is currently working on a book discussing the influence of religion on the American foreign policy. The book is tentatively titled Is God on Our Side?
I'm very curious to this book.

I'm not panicking yet, but when religions are used as a justification - justice for example - i am worried. Especially when it concerns foreign policy.

Religion explains both Americans' sense of themselves as a chosen people and their belief that they have a duty to spread their values throughout the world.
i detest the term "chosen people"

To quote Bill Press:
"We must lift morality out of the tiny world of the Christian Coalition and restore it to the global world of the Gospels. We must push back against fundamentalism and stand up for the moral values that made this country great."
