chedare says: Contest it. If you do get a ticket, paying your fine in most jurisdictions is an admission of guilt. Be sure to read the fine print, but if you can make the time to appear in court, you automatically have a pretty good chance of beating it - in many courts if the issuing officer does not appear to testify, your case will be dismissed entirely. And apparently, requesting an extension on your ticket increases the odds even further that your cop won't show. Finally, just remember that while a lot of offenses can be rather trivial, some violations like drinking and driving can result in serious injury or death. So drive safely, and pay attention to driving laws, even when they're stupid. I recently received my first speeding ticket ever. I went to court and got off on a technicality. The law is 100Euro plus 2 points on your licence for the first offence. Double for each if the fine is not paid before court. Despite this, first time offenders got off with paying with 100-150 Euro in the court poor-box one month later but no points off their licence!!! So no record. The best defence being a virginal or blemish free record, which you will retain by not paying the fine and instead going to court!!! Classic chicken and egg by never getting a record. So in Ireland too this advise is valid. Yep cleaner the slate the better ,worth the effort to keep it that way ,and a brief too not mentioned in clip but reasons like you describe would be better served with a legal beagle. Thanks for comment. |
