laceym says: Essentially, theocracy refers to the primacy of religion in government and law. A theocratic society is one in which clergy rules and in which religious law trumps secular law. When American Christians think of theocracy, they typically think of Middle Eastern countries which are characterized by repressive religious governments. Such governments may have an "elected" leader, but the real power typically lies with Muslim clerics. Law is based on religious doctrine and tends to be misogynistic. Hmmm... I see we've been perusing the same blogs, lacym. did you contribute to the Blog Against Theocracy ? I'd love to see it if you did. I have found these sources and more included in several articles so far. I'm amazed. Before doing some of the research, I'd have thought (wanted to think??) that even as bad as it seems under current administration, that this was "conspiracy theory" stuff. I'm apalled to find that it's not. I wish I were surprised, as well. Thorne, I was going to do something for the Blog Against Theocracy, but I got busy. I should have gathered my thoughts on paper for the last few weeks, but I thought I would have time. I thought about taking the 3 days and explain what it is like being an atheist and raising a family in Idaho (Idaho is right next to Utah, if you know what I mean). Maybe I'll make that a long term project. For now I'm enjoying reading all of the other blogs. My latest favorite site is http://coffeeghost.net/. I'm still on dialup (yikes!) so I have to reeealy wanna watch a video to take the time to load it. I think this: qassandra is the most creative interpretation on the theme, so far. II'm gonna post some of my favorites in my blog at Blog Against Theocracy. I am learning so much about many things which fall within this very broad purview. |
