How far will the world go with labeling normal words hate speech? 9th Circuit you say? I'll have to go to LexisNexis or Westlaw and grab a copy of that decision. Anyone can turn "normal" words into hate speech. The user of these particular words in the right on text, and easily make someone who lives an alternate lifestyle (or just believes that living said lifestyle is fine) feel threatened, alienated, and persecuted. Now that sux. Should there be a law preventing it? That's a tough question. On one hand, I believe that people should be free to say what they want, as long as it is not intended to be hateful or offensive. On the other hand, people should be able to work in an environment where they feel safe & secure from being persecuted for their lifestyle choices... As far as I can tell, the story is that a couple of city employees in Oakland posted a notice : "Preserve Our Workplace with Integrity. Good News Employee Associations is a forum for people of Faith to express their views on the contemporary issues of the day. With respect for the Natural Family, Marriage and Family values. If you would like to be a part of preserving integrity in the Workplace call ..." (in reponse to the formation of a gay and lesbian associaton). Their bosses took the notice down, rightly or wrongly, wanting to avoid conflict. The People of Faith sued, under the First Amendment and federal anti-discrimination law, and lost, so it ended up in the Court of Appeals. ... I'm kind of sick of radical Christians force-feeding their values on me and the rest of the society. And then, when people fight back, they accuse others of discrimination. Until these radical Christians can stop blowing up abortion clinics and bashing gay people, I will keep supporting their censorship. I think this clip is only for people of faith. Sorry Faith. i find it strange that all of western society values are based on christian values and it like complaining you have to many muslim ideals in Saudi Arabia.did any of these issues exist 50yrs ago no, were there any school massacres, high devorce rates, depression, large sucicide numbers nope. There were problems but not like these and not so pervasive. So what widened the gap well go back 50yrs and you have more people believing in christian values that people who wanted some other value system. You can't remove christian values that show although not perfect but present a healthier society that exists today and have the same peace, hope of the future and you could leave your doors unlocked 50yrs ago but not today. Its an equation. There was War, Genocide, domestic terrorism, racism, lynchings, segregation, extreme poverty (that one is still around), need I go on.... |
