I was wondering about the 'fictional' state of transparent aluminium, in the comment about 10 top sci-fi movies in one sentence. I remember alum from cartoons, I saw when young, but had no idea what it was. Alum crystals are mentioned by Pliny.
but glass is a generic term. The move was made in 1986. Gene Roddenberry was a stickler for consistency, but someone have to come back from the 24th century(or is it the 25th century now-time flies).
