The "Britons coming to America trying to figure out what the hell is going on here" theme is fascinating. I came across a TV show from the 70s that was basically that idea.

Here in the Bay Area, the sneakers mark out drug territory. I have a buddy who contracts for PG&E and her gets a chuckle out of driving into ghetto neighborhoods and clipping down the sneakers hanging from the wires. Gonna go watch the vid & see what the answer is in Brooklyn.
