masbury says: Oops, says US military. this will happen when troups have to deal with unknown enemies! shaor, collateral damage never wins over the hearts and minds of the people. This type of calamity needs to be prevented at all costs. The saddest part: witness at the village after the raid saw the body of a seven-day-old boy who died during the raid.Poor baby didn't have a chance. That is beyond words. Shaor: All enemies are basically unknown to a degree. There is never a justification for this kind of thing. Never ever ever. Surely, you see the sadness in such things. Shaor, both Bobby and Anom have good points - it is not only a terrible tragedy in which a little child just like one of ours was killed, but also a military failure counterproductive to accomplishment of the mission. "These things are going to happen" is simply unacceptable. The military's duty is to see that they don't, and they failed it in this instance. If one argues that waste of life is necessary or inevitable, then we'd better get the hell out now, because we've gone bad at our roots, and have no business shooting at others. That infant did nothing to deserve such a horrible death. It puts me in mind of the Epicurus quote: “Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?” |
