citizenbfk says: Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is a very interesting person, making profound changes in his nation and strong in his opposition to many U.S. policies. He's in the headlines today for new laws that cut out state support for Catholic education in the schools, introduction of "socialist doctrine," (about'The Liberator', Simón Bolívar), restrictions on hostile media and (gasp!) rights of the government to expropriate property. He opposes Israeli policies of warmongering, apartheid and genocide, is not only forming alliances with Russian and Iran but is building up a substantial coalition of Central and South American countries. The clip here is about the U.S. now planning to put "troops on the ground in Columbia," - (after a lifetime of covert military actions --- Columbia is one of the USA proxy armies in the region). He's also called George Bush the Devil (good for him) and he disdains the game of golf (probably shouldn't have mentioned this). Saint or Sinner? ¿Otro The guy has some good ideas, not crazy about the socialist aspect. He's also called George Bush the Devil (good for him) opposes Israeli policies of warmongering, apartheid and genocideA plus for him. cut out state support for Catholic education in the schoolsGood for him. restrictions on hostile mediaNot a good deal for the people. rights of the government to expropriate property. Not a good idea for anyone but the government. forming alliances with Russia and IranCould choose better friends, but the US is certainly no prize at times. Most of the rich are the owners of the media, who like Fox News in America, did nothing but spread lies and stir up unrest. He was right to shut them down, and he should have done it sooner. Maybe we ought to have him run this country. That way he can change our Constitution to stay in office forever, shut down the freedom of the press and spend the majority of tax money on buying weapons for himself. Although, I think we already have someone in this country working on that. I'm not certain about Hugo Chavez. One real problem is not being able to trust what you read and that, certainly, the story is different depending upon who tells it. @jay8h, for instance, post above, his profile says he's American but his post talks about someone here trying to suspend the Constitution so they can stay in office forever. I guess that is suppose to be an anti-Obama statement, or maybe it's about the Mayor of New York, Bloomberg, who did change the laws so he could run for a third term -- but he just had to change city laws, not the U.S. Constitution. So, @jay8h, you wrote a critical statement about someone in your (our) country trying to suspend the Constitution...and it ... |
