Hmmm. I tried to run the embedded version on my winXP and it fails. QEMU doesnt work. Thanks for the clip. I can run it just fine on Windows XP Pro. I had to try starting it 5 times. Then it worked ... erratically. Programs sometimes didn't start, others kept hanging. hmmm. I will try it again. QEMU is in alpha stadium so I dont aspect too much. But it would be nice... QEMU works fine for me but I found a much better solution: VMWARE player. It manage the network in a better way and it is damn fast. It is free of course. You can use it to run Linux software under windows using XMING as X server and running a server installation of XUBUNTU in WMWARE player. It is cool, try it, just follow the link for more details: http://ubuntufriends.wordpress.com/2006/07/29/best-xserver-under-windows-xming/ Giunov: Thanks alot for the tip, I will give it a try on my notebook as soon as I have some time for it. Ubuntu is great, I never installed it yet but now I have a good reason! Good stuff! I have been using puppy linux (www.puppylinux.org) at work, but it requires me to reboot the machine from a usb stick - not a big deal but a bit scary to those that don't understand and time consuming. I'll try this... Any idea if it works on 2000? I'll let you know! Must work on 2000. VMWARE + XMING run pretty fast on a lousy Notebook like my X41 with 512M. |
