The biofuels craze is rippling through the economy. We're seeing crops razed to plant corn. I lease out a farm in Iowa that used to grow soybeans, and now the farmers are planting corn!

The most *disturbing* news comes from Germany, where the price of barley has gone up 40% due to barley crops being ripped out and replaced with biofuels-crops. Why so disturbing? The price of beer is skyrocketing!

This is so bass-ackward ... Don't people realize that cheap biofuels are only possible as long as we have access to petroleum-based fertilizers and to extensive mechanized cultivation and irrigation? Once the cheap oil is gone, the biofuels will be gone too.

You have to look at the market numbers to see where it;s going and it isn't all Ethanol. There are only 900 E-85 gas stations in the U.S. That's really a drop in the bucket.

U.S.[/b] ending stocks to usage ratio for the 2006/2007[/b] crop[/b] year is pegged at 10.2%, the 4th lowest on record.

Dorine-

Sorry the links didn't go in, seems Clipmarks has some kinks in here still. Let's try again.

One link is derived from the Dept of Agriculture and University of Illionois, with a farm based analysis.

The other is from a markets and resource futures link that shows how investors are reacting to the corn activity.

You can read the two sources and see what investors see and also what farmers see.

Hope this helps.

Of note look at how much the U.S. EXPORTS of corn are in particular to CHINA.
