...isn't Climarks supporting the Tabbing function of Firefox ??? It's the most useful invention in browsers since the Mosaic back button in 1994, and I can't use it in my favorite forum!! So sad.

I use Firefox and I too have a mild technical problem with Clipmarks that may or may not be related to tabbing (although I think tabs work fine for me). Essentially, I can only only make say 3 or 4 clippings in one window, but then if I want to do more clipping I have to start up a new Firefox window. So for example, the New York Times had seven articles I wanted to clip seperately. Let's say I open each article in a tab. I clip the first article and save it. Then I clip the second article and save it. Then I clip the third article and save it. Eventually, like after the fourth or fifth clipped article, the "clipping tool" stops working. When I click on the green clipmark icon, i...

Same problem here as jklugman.

kmcolo, are you using 1.5.0.1 also? Since the release of FF 1.5.0.1 we have been experiencing and hearing about problems with clipmarks. We're trying to figure out what could be causing them and thus far the problems seem to be limited to 1.5.0.1.

If anyone is encoutering problems with the clipmarks firefox extension or web site, please send an email to support@clipmarks.com that includes an explanation of the problem(s) so we can try get to the bottom of this.

Please let us know what browser version you are using as well as the operating system as that will help us a lot.

Me too jklugman. Thanks for sharing the workaround. I thought it was a FF bug - re the buttons.

Wow, so it's not just me...?? Exact same problem experienced here with XP and Fx 1.5.0.1. Occasionally, clicking on the CM button will give me the pop-up:

"Warning: Unresponsive Script. A Script on this page may be busy or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now or you can continue to see if the script will complete. [Stop Script] [Continue]"

But by this point, it's too late and I have to open a new window or restart to get CM working again.

Has anyone tried disabling all extensions except for CM to see if the problem persists?

I occassionally get that warning message too, kore7. Usually clipping works the first time it appears, but then the problem I described starts happening the NEXT time I try to clip something.

When you say "disable extensions" do you mean uninstalling them?

Disabling and uninstalling are functionally equivalent...it's just that uninstalling permanently deletes the extension as well.

My point was that the problem is so sporadic, I can't tell if it's the CM extension misbehaving alone or if there's a conflict between CM and some other extension.

This info is very very helpful!! Have you noticed if the problems you're having happen primarily when you have more than one instance of the clipmarks web site open at a time? Also, is it primarily happening when you have multiple tabs open? So far, it seems like the problems are pretty specific to Firefox 1.5.0.1 so i wouldn't expect that it's a conflict we're having with another extension.

kore7:
wouldn't that imply that many of us have the same extensions then? I guess I'm thinking that IF it were an extension, would it be one or more? There's no telling how many of us have deployed similar extensions.

ERIC: I initially thought I was having the problem because I was logged into Clipmarks while reading and clipping. So I shut down CM and clipped and still had the problem. Multiple tabs don't seem to matter in my case. I did however, just try jklugman's workaround and it worked for me. :O)

One other thing... why am I asked to log in to post my clip - if I'm already logged into CM?

Bookchick: I certainly don't know for sure. Just for instance, AdBlock is a really common extension and it's raised all sorts of conflicts for many other extensions in 1.5.0.1. If the problem can be reproduced with just CM installed, that should settle that part of the question. If it can be reproduced with just one tab open, that should settle that question too.

The problem I was speaking about is no quite the same.

Here is how I read a website usually: First I read the headlines superficially, and I open in new firefox tabs all the items I'm interested in. Then, I come back to my 10 or so items and read them more carefully.

With Clipmarks, I can't do that. I can't open more than one clip in the same time, and only in the "main" tab. This is not a "big" disappointement, but still I find it a pity.

kore7, Eric, bookchick49: I just now replicated the problem on my home computer, using Firefox 1.5 (not FF 1.5.0.1). I have Windows XP. I disabled all of my extensions except for Clipmarks (the extensions I installed, if it's relevant, are ChatZilla 0.9.68.5.1, DownThemAll 0.9.8.4, ScrapBook 0.18.4,and del.icio.us 1.0.2). I tried to minimize my use of tabbing (I did accidentally open an article in a new tab, but I closed it and went back to using only one tab). I had another window of FF open (for the actual Clipmarks website itself). I was on the Reuters web site, I was able to clip one article, no problem. Then I went to another article, the problem occurred--green clipmark icon turn...

Guillaume: Just FYI, my FF browser currently has three tabs running: one for the main clipmarks website, the other two have individual clips loaded up.

Guillaume
How do you do that ? I can't right click a specific clip to add it to a new tab, because it's a javascript link. And I can't CTRL-click either.
3-1-2006 9:01 AM
jklugman
Guaillaume, I place my cursor over the title of the clip that's listed at the very top of the clip in the right panel, it's a regular HTML link.
3-1-2006 9:02 AM
jklugman
The title that is in the giant, bolded black font. Not the "Link" button that is in the blue bar.

Guillaume
Yes ok, I do that too. But it's a bit tedious. I have to first click on the clip (medium panel), wait for it to load (if it has several dozens comments, it can take 2-3 seconds) and then CTRL-click the title. Rinse and repeat for all clips I'm interested on.

What I would like to be able to do is directly CTRL-click them in the medium tab.

Well, that's not a big issue.

oh I see, you're right that would be nice.

FF 1.5.0.1 / WinXP, everything fine with tabbing and adding multiple tabcontents to clipmark. Just have a weird displaying of the the page which shows up after adding a clipmark. Nothing I would care about, but I can screenshot it if you like.

bookchick49: Do you have the "remember me on this computer" option checked at the clipmarks log in screen? I never have to log in to CM on my home computer.

Good news i hope! I think we have the bug worked out with the Clipmarks firefox extension (FYI: this works in Flock as well). We haven't yet made it available on our public install page, but if you click on the link below it will take you to a page where you can install the latest.

If/when you have a chance to try it out please let us know how it goes. Everything seems totally clear on our end, so if we get the go ahead from you guys/gals, we'll make the new version live.

Thanks so much for the great info you have provided us...it was very helpful in enabling us to fix it!!

Seems to be working ok for me. I also noticed (whether it's relevant to the fix or not), that clipping is more stable too. I'm anxious to hear what the others have to say.

Thanks for taking the time to look into this issue and fix so quickly!

Most problems I've encountered in FF has to do with Extensions or themes incompatible. Disable themes or extensions to Isolate the problem.

Opera has had tabbing for a very long time- way longer than FF.
Opera tho, has no clipmark ability.
