The number of possible combinations of the 68 elements that may give rise to a living cell far exceeds the number of particles in our universe, and many other universes alike. It is virtually infinite in fact, and this is only the number of possible different single cells. This is not redundancy, also in language we can create infinite expressions using very limited set of characters. It shows however again that the complexity of systems is not constrained by the diversity of the elements that constitutes them. |
