America was founded on Judeo-Christian principles by those with the intent of securing religious liberty and who fled from England to escape religious persecution.

The re-writing of American history continues & our president (sigh) doesn't even know what it is. They think if they keep saying it long enough (and they might be right) that eventually their pronouncements will be taken as fact.

Actually, those that fled Europe because of religious persecution did so hundreds of years before this nation was even founded. It was founded as a reaction to the growing tyranny imposed by England. The forefathers were merchants and artisans who were loyal to the King until he instituted policies that were against their interests and enforced them brutally.

Try barely 150 yrs. and you're using the date of the Revolution for Independence from Great Britain, not the overall seeking of asylum from religious persecution in Europe. Many, many Christian sects came to America during those early years, Primarily, to have the freedom to worship without the King, Queen, Pope, whoever dictating to them. An example: "Between 1618 and 1725 between 5 000 and 7 000 Huguenots reached the shores of America."

From the very beginning, those coming from Western Europe used the Laws of Scripture as the standard for establishing the Laws of America.

According to "Founding Faith: The Birth of Religious Freedom in America" by Stephen Waldma, there was as much or more religious discrimination in colonial America as there was back in the old countries. The prime motivation in constitutionally guaranteeing freedom of religion and no religious test for public office was that members of any given denomination were terrified at the thought of members of the others taking over. The settlers whose colonizations were religiously motivate were primarily seeking the freedom to establish their own little theocratic enclaves.
