Some years ago I had the good fortune to see John Astin do a one-man show as Poe. It was part dramatic reading, part biography and part exposition and all excellent.

Everyone should read Poe; The Raven and Murders in the Rue Morgue are a couple favorites, Happy Birthday Edgar.

Once when I was about 12, I read the Murders in Rue Morgue and the text really worked as intended and scared the shit out of me. Later I read his complete works, including the poems. And then of course there is the *one and only* comedy where the hero manages to rescue the lady, and wouldn't we all. Edgar will not be forgotten ...
