雖如此，企業主也不用擔心，畢竟品牌成功的途徑很多，品牌名只是影響的因素之一。

一旦確認一個品牌名，一定要進行法律上的查詢與登記，才可開始使用！

每當談到命名，我就恍如做了一場惡夢！

我始終記得在廣告公司服務時，為了替某一新飲料命名，客戶要求每周提出新名字，且遲遲不下決定。第一次命名按照我方專業的角度提出，客戶聽完後希望也用英文命名，於是回家翻英文字典，提了很多英文名，豈知道客戶又提出PC正流行，要用電腦命名，諸如DOS、OS、POWER都出來了，結果客戶還是希望再提出不同的角度命名，包括流行歌曲、年輕人用語、電影名字……如此工作持續了半年，平均每周提出50到100個命名，產品上市前總共取了888個名字，最後客戶還是用了第一次提案的建議！

對於行銷人而言，什麼名字都可被包裝，只是「效率」的問題。好的名字溝通效率高，會加速品牌成功，例如「多喝水」；普通的名字，也有可能成功，但是要投入更多資源及時間等待。

那什麼是好的名字？好名字至少要符合相關性、獨特性及簡單性，且沒有負面聯想。

所謂相關性有三個角度，就是要與品牌概念、產品概念或核心對象，任一角度有關，例如「聚」北海道昆布鍋，吃火鍋就是要圍爐、團聚，與品牌概念有關；「iphone」賣的是internet phone，與產品概念有關；「Travelmate」是給旅行外出人用的筆記型電腦，與核心對象有關。

獨特性則是名字要避免與競爭者雷同，進一步要有趣，好聯想。有些公司刻意把名字與領導品牌相似，最後也會被消費者識破。有的甚至招來法律訴訟，未蒙其利，先受其害。

簡單性就是名字要簡短、好發音、有趣、好記，蘋果電腦（Apple）就是一個經典的例子。有時候取了一個很有獨特性的名字，超出消費者的經驗太多，可能不好發音、不好記，所以獨特性要伴隨簡單性較易成功。

若是名字符合了以上三項標準，通常會將名字進行消費者測試，每一消費者對名字都會有很多意見，此時要觀察的是消費者對名字是否有正面聯想及負面聯想，正面聯想愈多愈好，負面聯想則是絕對要避免。有時品牌要跨國或跨區行銷，為了慎重起見，對不同國家的消費者或族群進行負面聯想的測試，也有其必要。
